Collective Learning Place, Student Design Workshop

Collective Learning Place, Student Design Workshop

CADL building, 15-17 November 2016

The workshop objective is to challenge participants to work in a learning group. Learning group itself is a collection of persons who are emotionally, intellectually, and aesthetically engaged in solving problems, creating products, and making meaning an assemblage in which each person learns autonomously and through the ways of learning of others. The goal is to build a collective body of knowledge; learning groups strive to create publicly shared understandings. By learning, we refer to the learning processes and outcomes involved in solving problems and creating products that are considered meaningful in a culture (Gardner, 1983). Rather than focusing on discrete bits of information that can be produced via simple-answer questions, this type of learning is situated in real-world problem solving and engages students cognitively, emotionally, and aesthetically.

This was arranged to develop the hard skill and soft skill of the participants, the two universities students (ITB and UKM Malaysia) from different fields of studies (interior design, acoustic engineering, biology, visual communication design, product design, visual art, environmental engineering ) was organized into some groups of five and explore the various tools and media utilization in pursuing fresh and intriguing ideas in discovering a preferable place to learn. They will work based on their spatial experiences and vision and finally they will present their ideas in a form of design ideas presentation board and spatial model and showcase it in the following exhibition.
